A true gem, this book! It is brimming with pearls of wisdom gathered through decades of professional experience working with kids and families, making it at once thorough and useful. It is based on the finest science currently available and has been written in a way that is understandable and relatable to parents. Brad Koffstein, writes compassionately while offering wise, practical counsel since they are so adept at understanding the viewpoint of the parent. I'm excited to share this resource with my patients, coworkers, and trainees. In this book, a crucial topic to discuss with such kids is the possibility that they have sensory control issues. The authors describe how our sensory systems can either introvert or extrovert both as we take in information through our senses. Strong emotional responses that are perplexing and severely disruptive can be a sign that a sensory system is having trouble processing and regulating input. A great collective information for parents and caregivers to understand about a child.
I bought this book to augment the lessons we are teaching my 4-year-old, who struggles with controlling her emotions. The book is amazing. Apart from the book being interesting for kids, it carries great information for us as parents. It helps me understand the purpose behind my child’s behavior and instead of losing my temper with my kid’s behavior. I understand it, acknowledge it and response in a much better way. The messages are adequate, and it is delivered effectively and in a style that appeals to kids. The colorful illustrations are interesting for the kids to engage along while reading. Children are given the tools they need to make wise decisions in this book, which also demonstrates the repercussions of poor decisions. It's an excellent resource for teaching growth mindset as well as the four pillars of character. You will use this book over and over again. I strongly advise you to add it to your collection of books.
Would that I had this book when I was a child! I've come a long way in overcoming thoughts like these in my own adolescence, but I'm hoping that this incredible work of poetry and visual art can help my 5-year-old daughter deal with them in a lighthearted way. A really valuable resource for me as a kindergarten teacher. On a playground, you can never miss the poor things who appear lost and unconcerned by the joy of other children playing. I will unquestionably suggest this fantastic book to all parents who experience the similar difficulties with their children. At school as teachers, we often find
every child acting differently. One would take interest in every activity and speak more, response quickly and be on the talkative time. Whereas on the other end there will be a child who hardly would make friends, interact of respond as enthusiastically as other kids do. Here is when we should notice their behavior and understand the nature of that child and deal the kid accordingly.
I recommend this book to be on every bookshelf in schools classrooms and homes where people have children. Often parents, caregivers, teachers make this mistake of comparing one kid to the other. But here comes the need to focus and analyze each kid, their behavior and most importantly the reason for the kids to behave in that certain way. In this book, the notion that such children have sensory control disorders is an important subject to bring up with them. The authors explain how, when we take in information through our senses, our sensory systems can exhibit both introversion and extraversion. A sensory system may be having problems processing and regulating input if it is exhibiting strong emotional reactions that are confusing and extremely disruptive. A wealth of knowledge that parents and other caregivers can use to understand a child. It isn’t necessary to have hundreds of pages to explain a certain behavior. Less but correct words can do the same job in a better way.
His book is a breath of fresh air for parents who have been struggling to figure out how to support their kids who have sensory difficulties. In addition to providing straightforward directions on how to strengthen your child's ability for coping and make them more functioning in the face of their sensory triggers, the authors clearly explain why your child is having difficulty. The authors shed light on a factor that is poorly understood and leads to both common family problems and behavioral issues. This book really is a gem! It is both informative and practical since it is rife with nuggets of knowledge acquired through decades of professional experience dealing with children and families. It has been written in a way that is relatable to parents and is based on the best science currently available. Since Brad Koffstein is so skilled at comprehending the perspective of the parent, he writes compassionately while providing intelligent, useful advice.
